The Saint Dominic Fellowship

The Saint Dominic Fellowship program supports the formation of the next generation of Catholic intellectuals and cultural leaders. Named for the patron of the Dominican Order, Saint Dominic Fellowships are open by application during the spring application period. See below for detailed application guidelines.

The Saint Dominic Fellowship includes three pillars that provide preparation for the support and renewal of our communities, on campus and throughout the world:

Saint Dominic Fellows engage the Catholic and Dominican intellectual tradition with a major or minor in the Humanities Program. By majoring in “Catholic Studies” or “Humanities,” or minoring in “Catholic Humanities,” Fellows benefit from an integrated approach to liberal education from the Catholic and Dominican perspective. (Fellows majoring in “Humanities,” a highly flexible major, structure their electives in light of the Catholic and Dominican intellectual tradition.)

Saint Dominic Fellows develop the qualities needed for the next generation of Catholic leaders. Fellows receive mentoring support and development opportunities as they take a leadership role on campus informed by our Catholic and Dominican mission. Examples of student leadership include positions in campus ministry, leadership of a student club, or work as a resident assistant.

Through the Humanities Program’s Duc in Altum Catholic culture immersion experiences, Saint Dominic Fellows are formed in the Catholic intellectual and cultural tradition in locations across the country and throughout the world by means of pilgrimage, works of mercy, leadership development, and dedication to the life of the mind. Fellows are required to participate in one Duc in Altum experience each year and are encouraged to participate in two experiences each year.

In return for their commitment to the pillars of the Fellowship program, St. Dominic Fellows receive:

Regular mentoring through the Humanities Program.

Special Program opportunities, including invitations to unique events, engagement and leadership opportunities, and curricular and co-curricular experiences. Note that fellows will likely be required to participate in a special 1-credit course each semester as part of the Fellowship.

Subsidized participation in our Duc in Altum experiences. Fellows are required to participate in one of these 1-2 week experiences per academic year and encouraged to participate in two per academic year.

A $2,500 academic support fund that can be used for books, research, academic travel, or other education-related expenses.

The Humanities Program has received a three year grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to establish the St. Dominic Fellowship at Providence College. During this development period, beginning in 2026 and concluding in 2029, the Humanities Program will create a strong and sustainable foundation for a permanent approach to student development, character formation, and cultural renewal.

In late spring 2026, fellowship applications from current Providence College freshmen will be accepted for academic year 2026-2027 with the expectation of an eight student cohort. Written application and recommendation letter guidelines will be available at the link below in early April. Completed applications must be received by April 25, 2026 and selected applicants will be invited to a second round in-person interview as part of the application process. Final decisions will be made by the end of May, 2026.

The application for academic year 2026-2027 will be available soon
